Mansoura University is the best innovative university “ innovation and cooperation with industry” in the Delta region in the MOSAIC 2023 competition for the best Egyptian universities and research centers

Prof. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, announced on August 26, 2023 the results of the MOSAIC competition for the best Egyptian universities and research centers in innovation and cooperation with industry, according to standards similar to those of the global innovation and knowledge indicators, during the activities of the ceremony organized by the Innovators and Talents Fund on the sidelines of the meeting of the Supreme Council of Universities which was held at the Ministry’s headquarters in the Administrative Capital.

The award was received by Prof. Cherif Youssef Khater, President of Mansoura University, and Assoc. Prof. Ahmed Fekry, Director of the TICO office at Mansoura University, he was honored for his efforts as coordinator of Mansoura University for the MOSAIC 2023 competition for the best Egyptian universities and research centers in innovation and cooperation with Industry.

Prof. Ayman Ashour said that there are five main axes for the competition, which are (human and research capital, infrastructure and development of the business environment, market development, knowledge and technology outputs, creative outputs).He added that the competition aims to identify and measure the level of innovation and cooperation with industry of Egyptian universities and research centers, noting that the importance of the competition comes from the fact that it contributes to achieving one of the most prominent themes of the national strategy for higher education and scientific research 2030, which the ministry attaches great importance to in order to support the national industry. By achieving a link between academic institutions and industrial and productive institutions to meet the development challenges in Egypt.

Prof. Cherif Khater, said that the university is working through its strategic plan to support innovation and entrepreneurship, sponsor innovators and geniuses, and work to link innovations with industrial institutions to meet development challenges in Egypt.

Dr. Diaa Khalil, Executive Director of the Fund for Innovators and Geniuses, indicated that the MOSAIC competition comes within the Egyptian state's directions to support innovation and entrepreneurship in all educational institutions, he added that the evaluation tool in the MOSAIC competition was built according to standards similar to the standards of the Global Innovation Index and the Global Knowledge Index with the addition of some items that are commensurate with the needs and requirements of evaluation within the educational and research institutions in the Egypt, explaining that five main axes representing the inputs and outputs of innovation and cooperation with industry have been reached. He also said that these main axes contained 17 fields, which in turn contained 93 sub-indicators for measuring innovation and cooperation with industry, indicating that the MOSAIC competition was launched in its first edition for the current academic year 2022-2023, by addressing all universities and research centers nationwide. A number of  39 public, private, and national universities, and 12 research centers, institutes, and bodies, with a total of 51 universities and research centers were nominated to participate in the competition.

The final evaluation took place and the winners were chosen at the level of all axes in general, and the winners at the level of each of the evaluation axes.

The ceremony was attended by Prof. Yasser Refaat, Deputy Minister for Scientific Research Affairs, Prof. Mahmoud Sakr, President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, Prof. Mustafa Refaat, Secretary of the Supreme Council of Universities, Dr. Diaa Khalil, Executive Director of the Fund for Innovators and Geniuses, and Prof. Majed Ghanima, Director of Partnerships and Marketing at the Innovators and Talented Fund, and Prof. Walid Al-Zawawi, Secretary of the Council of Research Centers, Institutes and Organizations, and a group of ministers and university presidents.
